Haven't seen a thread about this in the catalog. Basically, this is what I'm after: books about how to critically approach reading material, specially fiction. Even though I really like reading, I can't help but feel that I do it in very superficial level, if I was able to understand the technical aspect of writing I think I'd get more enjoyment out of the reading experience.

Any recommendations? Posting your take on the rec would also be helpful.

Explore the major literary theories of the last century. Russian Formalism, Marxism, Phenomenology, Structuralism, Post-Structuralism, Modernism, Post-Modernism, New Criticism, Post-colonialism, Psychoanalysis, New Sincerity, and so on. Find one that resonates with you.

It's a bit intimidating, but profoundly rewarding, if only because it allows you to approach a single narrative from multiple viewpoints.
