Kinda?

It's pretty easy to see why though.

We are taught for the first five years (or so) in grade school that we absolutely must know how to write in cursive. So basically every teacher will dedicate a good deal of their lesson plan making sure you can actually write in cursive.

Then we stop because practically no Middle School enforces cursive after that point. Now what's unfortunate about this is rather than keep enforcing cursive, or scrapping cursive altogether and just teaching block writing we slowly revert to a mish-mash between the two.

That's why you'll see loops and flourishes in some letters, and then just straight or curved lines with others. I've found that the letter 'd' is one of the most common markers that demonstrate what I'm talking about.

I get what you're saying. I was one of those students who never really took to cursive very well and so my handwriting remains (to my disgust) having a very blocky, childish style. I can't express this any better than literally just pointing at your original comment and my first response.

Sure, it gives you snob points to write fully cursive, however the most efficient way to write will always be to mix both styles wherever possible. I've always had terribly shaky handwriting and an improvised letter form; I had neither picked up proper form in school nor had I practiced steadying my fucking parkinson-hands until way too late thereafter. End result: shit.

The image is my normal handwriting. I feel like it's excessively malleable and floaty, while retaining a hint of feces at every turn. I've tried amending it by owning an improvisational and strokey style in order to cover it up instead of wasting time on genuine improvement. Whenever I'm in the mood I tend to caricature my own style to make it extremely sweeping and accentuated, however it turns unreadable at that point, though (I admit) mindbendingly sexy.
