I've decided to get into literature. After doing some research, these books interest me. Is my taste mallgoth/try hard?

The books are fine, anon. Just go read them, for real. Go read them now. Get away from here. Run as far away as you can. The birds will take care of me. You don't have much time.

Heart of a Dog is very good, and very easy to read in a couple hours. Would recommend.

Those are good books but I doubt if they'd be a good intro. I mean that in I don't think they'll offer what you think they'll offer. but hey, what's my opinion worth anyway, go for it. Start with C&P.

Stoner is soccermom level popularity wise, its definitely not try hard

Crime is punishment good so long as the length doesn't bother you for someone just getting into literature

Check out Tolstoy's Death of Ivan Illych, only about 50 pages. it's the greatest.

Crime & Punishment pretty much kickstarted my interest in literature. Start with that. I read Stoner shortly after and absolutely loved it. I'm currently looking for a non-shit edition of Oblomov. It seems we have some overlap in tastes.

Reading Oblomov at the moment since I've seen it surge in mentions across 4chan. About half way through and I'm quite impressed. The flashback was a bit of a slog at times, but ultimately good. There is a definitely a foreboding that everything will implode for him.

great OP but if you haven't read much before you might want to start with the /lit/ starter kit

Awesome. Read them and delete this thread. Come back when you're done and tell us what you thought.
