Is Ozymandias the greatest sonnet ever written?

>> No.6012431

No, Shakespeare and Donne have written better ones..

Art means different things to different people. If you liked it more then any other sonnet you've ever read then in your experience its the greatest sonnet ever written.

>> No.6012535

It's my personal favorite.
I like you op :3

that sonnet isn't even correct. ozymandias it's the greek name of ramses 2, that guy left quite a lot of things behind, including a huge memorial temple and even his mummy. also consider this pic how he kills some whites

petrarch...

>> No.6012863

Mad Men also made a reference to the poem

>> No.6013143

It's not even Shelley's best sonnet. That's England in 1819.

Yes it is, pretty much, there's nothing else that comes close to it, it's almost perfect. But as with all works of artifice, its standing is reflected by the context with which is associated. It was a staple of music hall recitation, along with works such as: The Green Eye of the Little Yellow God and for a while that association with the hoi poloi marred it for those, for which such associations represent a barrier for comprehension. After some while it found reappraisal and gathered some -respectability- but I should imagine that its recent almost ubiquitous familiarity has once again raised the shutters for those who don't care to see.

Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year's leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year's bitter loving must remain
Heaped on my heart, and my old thoughts abide!
There are a hundred places where I fear
To go,--so with his memory they brim!
And entering with relief some quiet place
Where never fell his foot or shone his face
I say, "There is no memory of him here!"
And so stand stricken, so remembering him!

Sonnet 60

Today is it? Is it today? I shudder
For nothing in my chair, and suddenly yawn.
Today I suddenly believe. Since dawn
When I got up, my muscles like a rudder
strain crosswise from this work. I rise and mutter
Something, and hum, pace, and sit down again
Hard. A butterfly in my shoulder then
Stops and aches. My stomach swings like a shutter.

As the undergrounds piston a force of air
Before their crash into the station, you
Are felt before your coming, and the platforms shake.
So light, so small, so far still, to impair
Action and peace so….risks we take make true
Maybe our safeties….come for our risk’s sake.

>How about you suck my balls

Will you fuck me afterwards? I'm sick of guys who just want a blowjob.

>> No.6014181

A sudden blow: the great wings beating still
Above the staggering girl, her thighs caressed
By the dark webs, her nape caught in his bill,
He holds her helpless breast upon his breast.

How can those terrified vague fingers push
The feathered glory from her loosening thighs?
And how can body, laid in that white rush,
But feel the strange heart beating where it lies?

A shudder in the loins engenders there
The broken wall, the burning roof and tower
And Agamemnon dead.
Being so caught up,
So mastered by the brute blood of the air,
Did she put on his knowledge with his power
Before the indifferent beak could let her drop?
