Hey /lit/, /tv/ guy here, I know you know about books so I thought I could ask you about this?

I picked up this trilogy before Christmas, and I've been enjoying it a lot! I can see the movie read pretty heavily into some background things that could have been explained more clearly in the first novel, but it's all pretty good.

My query is this: I've gotten to about the half-way mark in the first book and they're already in the lake village. Without spoiling too much, is there a lot of dungeon crawling in the second book that's not covered in the movie or something? I skimmed the last few pages of book three and saw that the big battle is at the end, so I can only assume the movie skips a lot content that fleshes out book two (I hate it when movies do that!) Is that the case, or should I prepare for disappointment?

Thanks in advance!

in case OP isn't a troll: The Hobbit is one book, not three. The movies decompress it quite a lot for shekels and because "trilogies" are hip. Dwarf genealogy aside, I don't think there'll be much in the books that isn't covered in the movies since the movies had to add tons of bloat to begin with.

1/2 of the content from the movies are in the Silmarillion and 1/4 is from the Hobbit book. The remaining 1/4 was pulled out of Peter Jackson's ass.
