Not OP, but basically it tells you to cut down on costs, live well under your means, dont be ostentatious, and stick your money in low risk index funds, but also keep an eye out for high return low investment opportunities. The wikipedia article is all that is necessary.

It also implies that most americans are whores for spending

Most financial books are basically like this:

Every one of these basically says invest monthly in a vanguard account, where non-equity/bond investments are ~%=your age (except the history books)
