Why does religion affect people in different ways? It will make some people terrorists, some people pacifists, sometimes both inspired by the same religion. Does it simply have to do with the temperament of the individual?

Why does anything affect people in different ways? What a stupid question.

But it's not bait. I'm asking how you can have a core text, and different people take such different things out of it, not just violence and peace, but all sorts of contradictory, but strongly held beliefs.

does it really need to be said?
it's because most religious people are idiots

That's not a very good explanation. How do you determine whether or not they're idiots? By how much they deviate from their text? But is pacifism a deviation as well, and make you an idiot? And what makes your understanding of the text so superior to everyone else's?

All human behaviors are heritable.

So many people mistake religion for the cause, when it is, of course, the effect.

1) You have violent asshole genes
2) Use your religion as justification for being a violent asshole

It's wrong to think these islamic terrorists would be peaceful people if only there was no islam. Islam is secondary for their need for violent conflict.

Genetics.

Most of feeling of divine imperative is actual, they just aren't all from the same God. Terrorists, for instance, are probably impelled by Ares. When you try to say they're all serving one God, of course it will be confusing.
