Once you get addicted your brain normalizes the additional dopamine injection by decreasing the amount you naturally produce.

This is coming from a smoker. Don't be a fucking idiot.

Nicotine high is not a myth. You just smoke more than you used to so you don't get it anymore.

For example, the second anon in smoking is achieving nicotine poisoning, the puking feeling. You wouldn't be smoking so much where you got actual nicotine poisoning if your body wasn't so used to it.

>> No.5836010

I smoked a pack a day for 6 years. Quit two years ago.

I don't agree that the nicotine high fades, it just have its counter-reaction that OP is not accounting for: craving it. You'll feel bad when you don't have it, you'll get out at 2am to buy a pack of cigarettes.

For a long time I not only enjoyed smoking, but spoke openly of how good it was, how it is a social thing, how it puts needed pauses in your days... After I quit, I can't look back. It controls you, not the other way around. If you have a cold or a cough, it will last longer. You'll feel "heavy", hard to breath and here is the catch: you won't notice it. You'll think it's normal, because you don't remember how it is not to smoke. I realized this only months after I quit and saw the benefits and all of that which I was missing while I smoked.

It costs a lot. The money just flies. And it all goes to fucked up tobacco companies.

I slowly quit. I diminished after I got a bit sick and after that I started looking at people smoking with new eyes. It's like biting nails, constantly tapping on tables, eating excessively or babies sucking on pacifier. I realized it is just a product of anxiety, of a need to consume something. I think a lot of writers and artists smoke because they need to do something with themselves when they pause the manual work for whatever reason. I set to myself to diminish everything that was just this product of anxiety. I was also biting nails and stuff. As a mantra, I just thought to myself "I don't need this, I *can* not do this, what do I gain from doing it? Nothing.". And it turned less and less frequent. With cigarettes, it was just the same. I loved to smoke with coffee and after lunch. So one day, after lunch I said to myself "I can not smoke this one, I'll smoke later". And I kept doing this more and more frequently, until smoking was weird again and it just felt bad, as bad as the first time I smoked. I postponed the next cigarette, always saying I'd smoke tomorrow and then tomorrow never came.

When I began, I said no, my friends insisted, it was weird but I soon came to love it. I don't believe in waste of time and I don't like to say I regret it. But I do, without any moralism or any other fucked up argument and with all my heart, strongly recommend you not to start smoking and to all of you who do to quit.

PS: e-cigs and other shit like that is for fags, it's absolutely ridiculous, it's like diet coke, if you are into that then just smoke regular cigarettes you dumbass, I don't fucking care
PS2: smoke weed instead, but be prudent

Depends on the person. Some people can have two glasses of wine a day for life and some people become alcoholics and wreck their lives when trying to do that.

It all depends on how prone to addiction you are, which is a mix of genetic and environmental factors.

Also, the substance itself seems to matter. I have no problem with tobacco, but booze is my weakness, for example. Other people don't take to drinking but smoke weed all day every day. Everybody's different.

I've always found that the part about smoking that's most relaxing, most addiction, and most destructive to you isn't the physical part of it but the mental part.

You learn to love lighting your fire, you learn to love the swirling smoke in the morning, you learn to love the red glow in the night. The physical feeling of your body wanting a cigarette goes away in five minutes if you ignore it I've always found, but your mind keeps drifting back to it for hours, you rationalize reasons to smoke even after you stop sweating.

Ayy lmao guys another /lit/ smoking thread

Anyways I am a casual nicotine user. I smoke perhaps a pack a month. Recently I've also started using dipping tobacco because they're going to ban smoking soon on my campus. Dip is quite tasty and also not as bad for your health as cigarettes are, I strongly recommend it. The other benefit to dip is it can be used indoors or even in class without disturbing anyone, and the buzz is way above and beyond anything you can get from cigs, and it lasts longer.

I typically smoke a cigarette before a major exam or assignment. It really helps me focus on the task at hand. Also if I need to stay awake for a long period (24+ hours) I use lots of tobacco along with coffee to keep myself stimulated.

I'm not an addict because as I said I only go through a back every 2 weeks-month and a can of dip every month or so but I like tobacco a lot and I recommend trying it.

Best cigarette brands:
Marlboro (Reds or Gold (lights) if Reds are too strong)
American Spirit (blue pack)
Camel Turkish Royals
Parliament (strongest cigarette I know of! Very good. Try the lights before you try the full version) Kind of expensive

Dip:
I've only tried Copenhagen and it's quite good
