-tolstaya is bad for you. she writes about russian politics for russian lovers of russian literature, same goes to d.bykov.
-v.pelevin is read by hipsters. it's full of eastern and french philosophy, western rock culture, video games, sex and other fashionable things. it's not really russian and somewhat bland to my taste
-sorokin is a favourite amongst russian urbanites. it has sex, violence as russian culture - poetry, history, rock. you'll recognize many a western author who 'influenced' him
