So has anyone here read Generation Kill? If so, what were your thoughts? I'm not looking for any political debates or anything like that. I've seen the miniseries and was wondering if the book was worth picking up.

The mini-series was better.

I really don't like how the war was portrayed. I know I'm in the minority, but I think this war was a moral necessity.

Plenty of other countries with evil leaders we could have toppled. How come the allies chose not to topple Kim Jung-Il or Achmudinejad?

Is the book more biased? It didn't seem like the show was very biased at all.

>Kim
I don't think you fully comprehend how obsessed that nation is over him. He will never die. He is Big Brother.
>Achmudinejad
This I wonder. Saddam was nothing compared to this ass.

I feel the same. Its funny cause I normally pretty liberal, but war is need for a lot of good reason. to demonize is just makes you army weaker.

Give a logical explanation why you feel the war in Iraq was morally necessary?

I'm not against wars of conquest as long as they're carried out in a sensible, economical manner (see Alexander, Frederick, Napoleon, etc. etc.) but the war in Iraq is just a pointless waste of resources. The place is a money pit.

Well, to be the first clearminded /k/ommando to comment in here on the subject I have to say that the book was much less sensationalized but paradoxically moreshocking. In general it seems much like i thought the invasion was like i.e. that bloodthirsty but well-meaning dudes were having a shitload of fun invading a countrie while sustaining one of the lowest casualty rates in modern military history.

Also, if you thought that the the miniseries was overly officer-bashing then read the book. HOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLYYYYY SHIIIIIIIIIIIITT

I thought that the writing in the miniseries made the marines seem a little too....glib. People don't talk like that.

Not quite agreed but good journalism...this comes from an anon who hates journalists with passion.

You hate journalists? Do you hate investigation of the truth or something?

>> No.578792

Love investigation of the truth, just find most journalists aren't into that anymore.

>> No.578802

>>578792
Unfortunately, I think it's almost always been that way. There never was a golden age of journalism. It has always just been a few journalists and newspapers interested into real investigative journalism. Everyone else is just trying to sell words and advertising space.
