Pulp is shit printed in pulp magazines, not 'crime novels written in a certain period'. Pulp stories are basically comic books in word form, some being crime stories, but even those are almost always awful unless they were written by someone who was also a very good novelist.

Anything printed in a pulp fiction magazine is good? You really should reconsider this statement, because a lot of it is shit you could write up on your lunch hour. Even if you're reading it for the same reason people watch Machete, most of it is still shit by those standards, because it's not even cheesy enough to be good, it's just very low quality literature that tries to be exciting.
