>fanfiction is love
>fanfiction is life
>fanfiction is my everything
>fanfiction is a miracle of the universe

so this is who I am

I never was able to read more then a few pages from almost any book but I can stay up for days and read fanfiction about it

the only reason I read/watch/play the cannon is so I can read fanfiction about it but most of the time I just skip the cannon( unless its like just 1 movie the whole story) and read stuff on wiki an in the internet in general about the story, characters when I saw them for the first time in fanfic to be able to understand it batter etc.

when I decide if I start following a certain series/franchise the first and most important fact for me is how much/good fanfiction exists about it

tell me everything what you believe about and fanfiction in general/ask me any thing related to it

I don't mean to be rude. I am sure you made this with good intentions but please, fuck off back to Tumblr.

Fan fiction is almost always conceptually simpler and easier to consume than the source material (inb4 Ulysses/PL/etc.). It uses the veneer and conveniences of a prior setting/characters and applies tropes to create a simple narrative. Even if it comes from a "highbrow" source it almost always waters down the original content for something much less interesting. It's escapism at best, a complete waste of time at worst.

The best books are far better than the best fan fiction, that's all that matters.

>> No.5733518

>>5733495
cause any fiction which is not fanfiction is not escapism and waste of time at worst right ?
there are fanfic authors who have took short stories and expanded on the universes and concepts creating 500k long stories which which are far superior to the cannon but like any other medium you must search for the 1% diamonds

You're not searching for the diamonds. You are happening upon them while getting your escapist fix of whatever romantic pairings suit you from the wide array of characters you can choose from to find ones that are your type.

Don't expect others to blindly sift through literature to find a winner when we have a critical review institution to help us find winners from authors who have to display mastery at a much more competitive level to even stand out.

the beauty of fanfiction is that the readers get to be the judges of whats mastery online whit out being limited by money competition whit other writers or any thing at all but what they are reading

Look, you can read fan fiction all you want, it doesn't make a difference to me. You started this thread asking for our opinions.

I read fan fiction occasionally when I was in a big sci-fi phase ten years ago. But it got to a point where I couldn't look past the lazy writing and still find pleasure in reading it. I still read a lot of books I consider "escapist" and the ones I enjoy the most (and find the most immersive) don't rely on tropes or stock characters, they create something unique.

What's the last non-fanfic you've read?

The only kind of fanfic I accept as "entertaining" is stuff like My Immortal, purely stemming from the fact that it is a literary equivalent of browsing /b/. Anything else is simply writers on the absolute beginner level of the skill scale attempting to work on the emotions created in them by their first emotively read book.

>> No.5733721

>>5733693
this is how fanfction works is about the emotions that the series is based of created in the first place for you on any scale be it you just liked one character for one page or just fucking loved every thing about that universe from start to finish

There was this fanfic I read about Numbah 3 and 4 from Kids Next Door that I liked and one Naruto erotic fic that I fapped to.

I did want to write a fic one day that was about Dhalos to bridge the gap between Tales of Symphonia and Phantasia

This was all of course when I was a preteen. I don't get the obsession about it but it's literally the written equivalent to fanart except it's not as easy to filter out the trash from the more technical, so it looks more overall trashy. I think it's fun for kids and they should have their fun and I mean that as sincerely as I can be on a Finnish Taco Menu Leaflet
