Hey /lit/
What did your parents read to you before bedtime when you were little?

For me it was Narnia, the entire series. That inspired me to pick up LOTR in elementary school and from then on I've been hooked on books.

pic obviously unrelated, she doesn't know how to read

the hobbit
then my dad read me the first chapter of LOTR, then said 'you want to know what happens next, read it yourself!' *trollface*
and so i did

My parents never read to me or my brother. We would get to stay up an hour later if we were reading.

This is actually quite a clever idea.
I'll make sure to implement it if I ever have kids.

The Hobbit, but he skipped Gollum and came back to it when he knew I wouldn't get nightmares from it :3

Also, Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but a lot of the time they spent in Hamburg at the start just confused me.

My mom read me Dr. Seuss and a couple of other things until I was in second grade. Then I just started reading on my own. *shrug*

I always had to read for my parents because they are farsighted while I am nearsighted. My dad can never remember this, so one time when we're at a large family dinner at this great long table he calls to me to come over. He wants to borrow my glasses to magnify the menu and I tell him that won't work, but his insists on me handing him my glasses anyways. He gives it a try and remarks that my glasses aren't working right.
