>The Bible
>Charles Darwin
>Adam Smith
>The Quran

All of this is awful name-dropping tier literature. You can imagine the kind of people who will list any of these as most important.

Awful, truly

Except for To Kill a Mockingbird. I honestly don't know anyone who would list that as the most influential work of literature, or exactly what that would belie. Is To Kill a Mockingbird somehow more popular in Britain than in the USA? Do I only know plebs? Please let me know.

If I was to list good literature that I think was significant in capturing the social experiences of certain eras, I'd probably choose Charles Dickens and John Steinbeck. They're not my favorite authors, but I think they are in many ways the most important.

Dickens, for example, really captured the suffering of Industrial England. Steinbeck the suffering of pre-war America.

Everyone just really likes Atticus Finch.

> Book Magazine's list The 100 Best Characters in Fiction Since 1900 lists Finch as the 7th best fictional character of 20th century literature.[2][3] In 2003, Atticus Finch, as portrayed by Gregory Peck in the 1962 film adaptation, was voted by the American Film Institute to be the greatest hero in American film.[4]

Can we stop having these threads about polls?

Yes, the general public is retarded. We are so much better than them. Let's not wallow in our superiority any more, it's a stale feel.

surprisingly the list has only 3 trashy books, hawking's one which is just some pop sci, good, but not significant for the real science in any way, and to kill the mokingbird with 1984 which have no real significance except entertainment either. actually all these 3 books are for entertainment
