Now I have another question. How do I tell that the ebooks that I pirated are retail or not?

OP here.

What do you mean? All 'retail' means is that you paid for it, so...

I use bookfi.org for free ebooks, and they pdfs they have are pretty close to what you get in bookstores.

Like I said in another thread yesterday, I expect the Voyage to be much better than the Paperwhite.

I have a Paperwhite and the touchscreen navigation is annoying, when I want to turn a page back I usually manage to turn a page into the other direction, and about once in a 100 turns I set a bookmark instead.
Voyage has that "squeezing" function similar to the old 3G which I predict to be more precise.

I meant if the books are retailed version with its DRM stripped or some shitty scanned version. Recently read Do Androids Dream and the formatting was horrible--all the lines are left-aligned. It was at least error-free so I could finish it but still. Other time, I read Zen and the Art with a whole chapper missing, had to look for some other shitty version. Bookfi and libgen are okay but I would much prefer some places where all books are official kindle version. Such versions of newer books are easier to find though.

Generally I've found that mobilism has mostly high-quality ebooks (either actual retail books or very clean edited scans)

I'm only worried about the glass being reflective that aside I don't expect any problems. Except for the design of the backside, but eh, it'll be in a cover all the time anyway.

Same concerns here mate. I actually read from pcmag that the glass is not reflective due to clever etching but wait for review just to be sure.

Yeah, I read that it's etched too, but I don't know how good that is. More etching means more blur, less etching means more reflection. I hope they found a way to get rid of virtually all reflection without noticeable blur.
Reflections would really kill it for me.

No mention of reflection, which is good I suppose. Still waiting for customer reviews that would show problems in serial models.

If no problems are known after a couple weeks, all is probably fine and you're over those first awkward devices the factory put out before everything ran smoothly.

It's most likely okay to just order one now, but sometimes there are problems that are not know beforehand like that screen problem that plagued the 2012 Paperwhites that were sold during the first 3-4 months or so.

the backside looks ugly and the glass will probably be a bit reflective. I like the material of the paperwhite although it scratches really easy. I'm not too sure the side buttons are a good idea, they look really easy to hit by mistake. the off/on button placement is nice though, but I'm too happy with my PW to buy another one.

>> No.5609396

I have a 2012 Paperwhite and the processor is really fucking slow. Having to wait 1-4 seconds for pageturns or things to pop up doesn't sound like much, but it feels like an eternity.
The voyage would also allow me to read manga, which I always wanted but was never able to do.

>> No.5609444

>>5609396
I have a Paperwhite too and reading manga isn't too bad. There's some program called Kindle comic converter which creates azw3 from cbr or pdf I think, works rather flawlessly for me so far, though I've only tried it with some Eva manga.

Just get the Paperwhite 2. If you can't afford it, get the regular Kindle. If you don't want to use the touch screen to turn the page, get the Voyage (but listen to the guy telling you to wait).

>> No.5610462

Just go kobo.

Design is cool, you can put epub on it, and now it's even waterproof !

I once had a kindle, then a kobo, and i will never go back to amazon and their shitty azw files.

there are no problems at all with filetypes

if you're retarded like this guy, get a kobo. otherwise, get a kindle

>> No.5610578

I bought a paperwhite in december last year after my keyboard, may it rest in peace, died. I love it. I've never had any issues with it only being able to read mobi. For one thing, generally when I pirate its already in mobi and secondly, its a huge piece of piss to convert on the occasion it isn't.

I will admit though, the waterproofing in the kobo really appeals. I like to read in the bath but you know, steam, water, general moisture, not very good with the majority of electronics. Generally have to whip out the cheapo paperbacks.
