it's not meant to be a well defined concept, no reason to be too stringent on what qualifies or not, long as it is justified

for me, it means musicians whose work taps into the aspects of /lit/ i enjoy most (continental philosophy, post structuralist thought), but it might mean something different for you

Yeah, I didn't wanna start the thread off with OPN, but it would have inevitably come up. What would you say the intersect between /mu/ and /lit/ is?

Confession: this whole thread is essentially an attempt on my part to virtually interact with the contingent that browses both /lit/ and tinymixtape interviews,

But I'm also interested in what music people enjoy that relates to similar themes and exists outside of my self reflexive hipster blogosphere addled head

Yup, LCW is my favorite album of theirs as well, but I do honestly love everything they've done. Brock's pretty unique as a lyricist, I think. Most great songwriters are some variation of folk, but Modest Mouse is heavy musically and in a lot of songs you can't even hear what Brock's lisping off.

On the way to god don't know
my brain's the burger and my heart's the coal
I'm trying to get my head clear
i push things out through my mouth i get refilled through my ears
i'm on my way to god don't know or even care
my brain's the weak heart, and my heart's the long stairs
Inland from Vancouver shore
the ravens and the seagulls push each other inward and outward
inward and outward
in this place that i call home
my brain's the cliff, and my heart's the bitter buffalo
my heart's the bitter buffalo
we tore one down, and erected another there
the match of the century: absence versus thin air
on the way to god don't know
my brain's the burger and my heart's the coal
on this life that we call home
the years go fast and the days go so slow

I want to read his autobio to see if he's serious or not, but I doubt he is giving accurate accounts about events. I think I understand his humor, but sometimes I just don't know. I want to know a lot about him, but I dont think ANYBODY really knows.

I like MC Ride

He's evolved into a pretty damn good lyricist over the course of his work with Death Grips, and I just really enjoy his very uniquely esoteric, schizophrenic, steam-of-consciousness lyrical style. He also excels in his ability to characterize this intense, visceral portrayal of physical violence and mental illness through his songwriting and performance (with help from Zach Hill and Andy Morin).

I'm not entirely sure what "/lit/ tier" means exactly, but if I could compare DG to something /lit/ related, I'd say their songs kind of remind me of a weird mixture of Notes from Underground and Blood Meridian, or other books in a similar vein to those two, as far as their lyrical content and atmosphere go.
