Is "anti-concept" a good concept? I have a feeling more people would use it in their rhetoric if they weren't afraid of being mistaken for Randians.

Define "good".

Examples of things that may (or may not) be considered anti-concepts (at least in some contexts):

>social justice
>honour
>race/gender equality
>left/right, conservative/progressive
>patriotism

That was my definition of "good" as in "good concept".

lol then that post was better than I though. But yes, I'd say they can be good concepts then.

>An anti-concept is an unnecessary and rationally unusable term designed to replace and obliterate some legitimate concept. The use of anti-concepts gives the listeners a sense of approximate understanding. But in the realm of cognition, nothing is as bad as the approximate . . . .

In other words, any concept that is in reality a vague, self-contradictory, fallacious buzzword (that is difficult to even call an idea). Some (very arguable) anti-concepts are: >>5586224

Rejecting all objectivist tenets out of hand is a bad idea. I hadn't heard of the anti-concept before and now I'm thinking I should try to get a better grasp on Rand's ideas just because that one seems useful.

So all of them? I mean, the way this "anti-concept" is used (very vague selection of what is and isn't anti-concept with a belief in a strong and clear-cut opposition) makes me think that it is itself an anti-concept par excellence.
I actually don't see much difference between the above and calling any perspective you don't like ideological (in opposition to yours which is beyond ideology), which is of course itself a very ideological practice.
