new to /lit/ what do you guys think of the renaissance man aka James Franco?

>> No.5574206

I liked him in Freaks and Geeks.

>> No.5574212

He's said before his favourite book was Blood Meridian

Anyway I wish I could like him and I do like what he tries and wants to be, but he makes it too hard.

>tfw you and Jamie Frank have the same favorite novel
I'm truly embarrassed.
Anyone got any recommendations of things I will like more than Lolita?

There's no shame in liking Lolita.

Franco's a huge dilettante. He wants to be seen as intelligent, as having inner substance, instead of being a mere 'star' for his looks and luck, but he's really just sticking his hands into as much intellectual work as he has a passing interest in, leveraging his fame to get him further, with no real devotion to anything.

i wish i was attractive enough to become an actor and do shit movies for money, lots and lots of it, just so i can live the rest of my life not worrying and not doing anything but read and listen to music and run and walk and watch movies and literally do nothing else, except eat ofcourse, id eat a lot, life would be fun

but no... i gotta work my ass off studying things i dont like so i can get a job that requires long work hours doing something i really dont like doing just so i can have a steady income because im too big of a pussy to break my parents heart, they spent a lot of money on me as a kid, and they're expecting a return on their investment so their lives as old people wont suck. i wish i was the only person in my family tree

I used to think Franco was cool but now he just seems like a pretentious fuccboi. What fuccbois are for fashion, he is for the literary community.

Also, 'Freaks and Geeks' is kind of a good show but everyone in it is insufferable. Especially Sam, fuck that kid.

I don't find Franco very impressive, maybe compared to other actors but who cares if actors read great lit.

I wish I could had the chance of doing all the stuff he is allowed to attempt to do. He's decent at most and I'm sure that if we lived in a simpler and more fair society everyone could attempt to create on that variety of terms, making the world a better place to live in.

The kids are hard to tolerate, but they are more universal than the teens so it evens out. I really hated how I couldn't tell Franco's emotions most of the time, even if he looked the roll he couldn't act shit and dragged what would had a decent series quality into teen soap.

Intelligent, but wants everyone to know it to the point that it's off-putting

sincere taste for the artistic but also chooses to like many things simply because they're deemed something a "smart, artsy" person would like ("patrician")

Nepotistically enrolled in impressive universities out of love of learning when he was rich and connected enough to do so but apparently doesn't put in a considerable amount of work. To some degree he enjoys the idea of being an academic more than he enjoys academia

He would fit in very well here

Spot on. Also unfortunately it seems like every artistic effort he makes turns out a mess. No one enjoys his adaptations and he should stop dragging classic books he seems to like through the mud by making them movies. He's the opposite of Midas.
