There are no good books here, everything is shit, only because you like it.

My ex was constantly recommending Coelho to me but I managed to put it off indefinitely. I felt a bit bad because she said his fiction meant a lot to her because she read it back when she was in school and had to hide from bullies in the library during lunch breaks. But, shit, I got my own stuff to read.

Knowing that someone has read Coelho and doesn't despise him with every ounce of their being makes me seriously doubt every other faucet of their intellect.

You see, Coelho isn't a guilty pleasure author who writes things that you can take pleasure in while turning off your brain, he actively writes what can only be called anti-literature; anyone who appreciates him must necessarily be mentally deficient in some substantial way in order to see any value in his work.

I never understood the concept of reading a book to get laid. If you have a personality and display some admirable characteristic--humor, wit, playfulness, attentiveness--you'll get the girl. The book was just shit. The ending was so Hollywood and contrived, and all the real-world themes that were so prominent throughout the whole story just disintegrated.
