I know that there are anons who'll agree with me on this board: Thomas Pynchon is not a good writer.

My friend from Princeton, mind you, has never heard of him before. When I gave her 45 to read, she told me that she couldn't finish it and that she wasn't too infatuated with it. She mentioned that it was forced and monotonous.

Say what you want, but someone who is clearly smarter than me and claims that an author who I, a pleb, don't even like isn't good, is all I need to hear.

Her credibility: She writes poetry and has won several awards for her work. What have you done?

Isn't forced and monotonous his schtick?

What does she think of Finnegans Wake?

Dunno, I haven't asked her.

From what I know of, she primarily reads Female and African literature.

-12/10, you could be arrested by a game warden for using bait this shitty, thread sucks, pls delete

>not knowing pynchon

anybody worth a damn in literature knows pynchon. you don't have to like him or have even read him, but if you claim to be knowledgeable about fiction and have not even heard of thomas pynchon, you are a gormless pedant.

I say this because half of literary critics jack off to this guy like he's the second coming of christ, and he's mentioned in a fuckload of literary magazines, journals, craft books, lit theory books, etc., touted by agents, you really can't fucking miss him if you have even a half-assed interest in novels. i've seen pynchon novels in every library i have ever been to.

what rock is this retarded cunt living under?

I don't know why you need to base your opinions on objective credibility. If you don't like Pynchon, fine. I haven't even read any of his books. No singular author is going to be liked by everyone. That doesn't mean they aren't good. What you enjoy is your prerogative. Name-dropping universities and unlisted awards as credibility is embarrassing and unnecessary.
But what do I know? I didn't attend Princeton.
