Other people are saying you came off as pretentious or overzealous in impressing her, but I don't think that's true, and it's entirely dependent on context. You just have to get a girl who is either a) interested in what you're saying, either because she's vaguely aware of what it is or maybe she's even capable of talking about it, or b) pliable enough to be like WOW U KNOW STUFF :-) about anything. As with anything else with girls, it's a crapshoot.

As long as you were already having established conversation, you're fine. You tried a topic, it didn't fly super well (crapshoot, try another or another girl), but you still a) developed it further to show that you aren't just going DURR JAPANESE MODERNISM (mentioned actual authors in case she's heard of them e.g.), b) gave a good response to her Murakami shit so at least you can go with that as a backup, and c) gave her lots of room to keep it rolling even if none of this works.
