should i include a famous persons email address on a bulk email promoting myself, just bc their email address is readily available online?

>> No.5245927

Depends. How badly do you want that famous person's publicist to see your email before they delete it without reading it?

No. If you have some sort of real connection to the famous person, feel free to reach out to them. But don't just send them junk mail hoping they'll do something about it. 99% chance they won't.

Here's an example how to do it right:
I went to the same college a major syndicated cartoonist went when he was an undergrad. I have a big interest in cartooning and had been drawing for fifteen years by that point (freshman year). I sent him an email saying who I was and were I went to school, asking him a question about a character and if it was a reference to his old college, and asking if he had any advice about making comics for the student news paper.

He was happy to respond and was very encouraging. Later that semester, he and another cartoonist how graduated from there came and gave a talk and I was able to meet them and show them my drawings. It was pretty fucking awesome.

Sending out spam to someone isn't a good way of getting their attention.

Well, you risk being blacklisted if you do.
Famous people get a lot of emails; they're much quicker to block than most.

Whatever dude. I met someone who gets paid to do something I love and they gave me advice. That's pretty awesome to me.

On the other hand, I also met Billy Collins once. I had nothing to say to him, hadn't read more than a couple of his poems by that point, and it wasn't particularly pleasant for either of us.

The point is, meeting someone famous when you can connect with them is cool, and meeting someone famous just because they're famous isn't.

If you're talking about tao lin's address, then possibly. I don't know how much junk he gets (probably a lot of bulk emails), but I've spoken to him via that address a few times and I get the impression that he responds to anything he finds interesting

No. You would be treating them solely as a means to an end, ignoring their existence as ends in themselves.

Hello /lit/
I live in Nepal.
What this means is that I cannot be extradited to the US for breaking US laws, for example the assault of a US citizen.

I would like to punch Tao-Lin right on the nose. As hard as I can. I would be willing to film and upload the act for your delectation. I can not afford to fly to the United States and back to do this myself.

Would you be willing to donate to this cause?

Assuming it can be located, on my journey I would also be willing to film the act of defecation on DFW's grave, if you should so wish.

Cast your votes now.

It sounds like you need to read: How To Win Friends and Influence People.

Or some basic marketing stuff.

Anyway, no. You need to carefully hand craft and make apropos your attempt with the famous. Above all else you must not waste their time.

Also, double check the reason they have provided a central point of contact for the general public. If it's something like "please provide feedback for my specific works here" then you are wasting their time and yours. Double check that they have not provided their contact information for a narrow reason.

Once you trip the bozo filter, you're done. Ask first that you might send them your promotion for review, thus inviting a response, be polite, and respect a 'no'.

You've put yourself ahead of the game with just by getting a 'no' and positioning yourself for future recognition.
