As snide as your comment is, you have a point. Dostoevsky is a standard of most, if not all, literary diets.
You're not superior for reading something that other literates expect you to have read.

I honestly didn't really get much from TBK. I never really connected with any of the characters or any of the concepts, and a lot of the time it felt like a bit of a struggle to read. I'd place it as my 4th favourite Dostoevsky novel, after The Idiot, C&P and The Double.

Can someone explain exactly what makes Karamazov so good compared to any other technically flawless book? Is it just about the themes? If interesting characters: how so and how is it shown? As autistically as possible if you can.

Fiction and poetry is just something I never understood and I've completed maybe 3 novels in my entire life.

Dunno. It was a good book, but no idea what about it made it a great book. The characters seemed a bit cookie cutter. Aliyosha was a litte bitch.

Only the story about the old priest zusima and his former life really stood out.

I wonder what the root of this fixation with Reddit is. If a book is popular on Reddit, is it automatically disqualified as an object of your "well-read, cultured, yet still romantically obscure" fantasy that you don't realize is transparent to everyone around you?
