Any advice on writing a fight scene? My mind always goes blank on this. I can't ever describe one properly, it's always "anon cuts down" or something.

>> No.5184584

Try not to focus on the minutiae and instead try to describe it with broader strokes
Also, read books that have fight scenes in them

>> No.5184587

Don't have fight scenes

>> No.5184592

Fight scene with swords and shit? Go read some Bernard Cornwell.

>> No.5184594

Don't just describe the fighting, describe the characters perspective: how did it feel to be disemboweled? What color are his intestines? How much spaghetti fell out?

This. Write a real book instead. If you can't, don't write a book at all--write a TV screenplay or a comic book or develop a video game.

So because a book has fighting in it, that makes it not a real book? Rather narrow minded, don't you think?

Real books have fighting but they don't call them "fight scenes" generally.

Last time I was in B&N every single one of his books had the same GRRM quotation on it. Meant it as teasing, no insult intended.

I still don't see why you say that. Do you only read things that have conflicts that can't end up in violence

I was being a stupid asshole because I'm bored.

I just jerked off and now I feel sorry about my terrible posts in this thread. I'm a bad person.

I remeber reading the Dark Elf trilodgy and how the Author made some big deal about some technique called "double thrust, low" and how the main guy couldn't counter it or some shit. Thing is, the way he described it I never understood what was supposed to be happening. Afterward the author felt just saying double thrust low described it enough. RA Salvatore has good fight scenes in mind, now of which translated into his writing in ways that I don't have to go back and read three times.

Don't do that.
