What does /lit/ think of this quote?

Is it BS or no?

it's BS. there's nothing wrong with valuing your life and refusing to fight for capitalists looking for a quick buck.

Why should I give a fuck about my country?

I'm proud of the things I have accomplished, but only things I actually worked at. I didn't have to do shit to be born where I was.

This quote doesn't quite make sense.

He complains about people who care about nothing and don't want to go to war over nothing. And then he sees that people who only care about their own safety care about nothing. But this is a contradiction. These people might very well go to war over their personal safety. Then he continues on with some trite feel good nonsense about freedom -- as if that nebulous concept meant anything at all (you believe in free will, mr. mill? how cute). Then he talks some bullshit about how he's better than other people even tho he's probably a candy-ass intellectual who wouldn't fight anyone for safety or freedom.

In terms of war to take over other countries/territories, can anyone tell me what the point is?

I understand it's cool to subjugate an entire country of people, but it's not like they agree with their new leaders/government. Wouldn't it just end up dissolving into nothing, anyway, as the case with Czechoslovakia in 1989?

It's costly to exhibit a control over others, and the gain seems (to me, anyway) not even worth it.

Any ideas?

I would imagine you take over a country once for a little bit then give it back and demand tribute in the future for "security". Kinda like how the Mafia does it.

I cannot, in any way, think of a recent war fought by a first world country that remotely increased the freedom of its citizens.

Hm. Like the US with Iraq.

But, when this isn't the case, as with the Nazis and Poland (also Czechoslovakia)? Or were the Nazis just waiting for the war to end to get to that "giving back and demanding tribute" part?

I don't really think afghanistan and iraq count as 'wars' when all you do is invade a third world shithole that can't fight back and then steal oil and grow opium,

It's legit. People built and defended your country so you could grow up like you did. Now it's your turn. Too many delinquent men and it fails.

Countries are glorified tribes that claim ownership of a certain plot of land.

The very notion of a country is xenophobic and is detrimental to humans understanding each other.

Depends. Wars for territory arent just about the territory. Theres a reason for them. In the case of the Nazis, they wanted Lebensraum.

The point of that is whatever pushed the attacking army to that point anyway. Lebensraum, God Wills It, lust for natural resources, old injustices, etc.
