/Lit/

How does it make you feel that Leo, Tobey, and the rest brought Nick, Gatsby, Buchanan and Daisy to life more so than the fucking author of the book.

This is true. The actors conveyed the emotions better than the book did. This is not bait by the way.Movie as a whole wasn't great...but fuck if the actors didn't do their job.

Someone posted something earlier today about our society moving from seeing the world through literature to seeing it via imagery.

Wish I saved it cause this post is a prime case in point.

You're disgusting, OP. Go back to /tv/ with the rest of the hoi polloi

I know this isn't /tv/, but that flick seriously had some of the best simulated sex I've ever seen.
Scorcese really is a great director. Despite being one of the more awkwardly winding comedies in recent memory with characters who were written as caricatures half the time and seriously the other half (yes, I get that that's the point), he really pulled some fantastic performances out of the actors, comedic, emotional, and sexual.

Blow me.

In the book, Gatsby seems like he's on valium the entire time, playing a game in which it doesn't matter whether he wins or loses.

Tom Buchanan seems like a moron.

Daisy seems like a flighty ass who doesn't care about anyone except herself.

None of the above happens in the movie, rather they all have actual emotions that simply don't come across in the book.,

No, it's more just that you're retarded

>> No.5114077

What is the point behind this bait? What pleasure do you derive from pointless anger-mongering? Is it because you are too insecure to make a sincere thread about literature? Why don't you actually read The Great Gatsby with a mature attitude, or read another book if you don't like it? Please just stop it for fuck's sake.

Dickhead, I liked the book. Thought it was very good.

The problem is that you're entirely missing the damn point. They're not SUPPOSED to be likable sympathetic, emotional human beings. They're SUPPOSED to be driveling bourgeoisie scum... Which, in the book, they are. UNLIKE the movie that paints them as more pitiably misunderstood.

But really this movie is so incredibly fucking bad. Is there a single shot in the movie that lasts more than 3 seconds? I feel like Baz Luhrmann didn't give a single note to any of the actors, just said "stand right there and do whatever I don't give a shit I'm not fuckin kubrick"
