I'm going to (re)read the Bible, at least in part, emphasis on the Pentateuch (really Genesis/Exodus) and the Gospels.

What are the best translations for accuracy and understanding the puns/exegetical? (both old and new)

What are the best sets of commentary?

Related, what are the books I should focus most on? Also, what of the apocrypha?

There's puns in the Bible?

Putting the vowels of Adonai inside the word YHWH is not a pun.

The Hebrew language allows for numeric reinterpretation of words, and language (generalized) allows for double/triple meanings. As I'm sure you're aware.

The New Oxford Annotated Bible contains the best commentary. It's based on the NIV, which retains the author's intentions the best.

Tobit gives a good insight into their culture, and also has a great literary value.

Thank you. I'll look into both.

It's a long shot, but I have a Harper Collins (New Revised Standard Version) "Study Bible". Do you know if that stacks up?

Also, not to overtap you, what about the Koran?

Your best option overall for the criteria you mention is the New American Standard Bible.

There's some great wordplay, especially in the OT. And labeling it 'puns' doesn't do it justice at all.

I've leafed my King James many times. The poetry of it is wonderful, though I've read/heard that it's lacking in accuracy.

Why can't we have a recommended reading bit about translations, instead of having this question asked every other fucking day?

Because evangelism.

Because that would likely span a fucking eternity of human culture and be meaningless given it'd be designed by some shitty method of census among retards on 4chan. Do something about it yourself.
