What does /lit/ think of Jennifer Government? I quite enjoyed it - in fact it's probably my favorite novel by an Australian author.

I preferred the webgame, as shit as it was.

Brilliant marketing.

I'll fucking say! It's how I heard of the novel in the first place.

I love novels with dystopic settings; Jennifer Government, 1984, Brave New World. Got any suggestions for me?

Fahrenheit 451 is a given.

Atlas Shrugged

I remember reading this a few years back!

I don't know why, but Australian authors always seem so tacky. Have you ever read 'Without Warning'? I don't know, I just don't feel the depth in the works like I did with other authors.

That was incredible.

I had a country whose flag was a turtle and everyone walked around naked.

Aah, I forgot about Fahrenheit 451.
Is Atlas Shrugged a dystopic novel? I see it on here often but I've never bothered looking into it at all.

>>510385
Nope, haven't read 'Without Warning'. Is it any good? The summary on wiki doesn't make it sound particularly amazing.

>> No.510394

I used to play an online game based on that book. Never read it though. It's on the list.

Near the middle it gets pretty totalitarian.

Yes, this game. I had a nation called president barack obama, but some racist southerners b& me for no reason. All the raids and everything were good fun.

Exactly my point. It's like 600-700 pages of bullshit.

The German name for this is a whole lot more iconic.

LOGOLAND.

Fuck yeah.
That'd be up there with Animal Farm or Brave New World. It's memorable. "Jennifer government" is very "meh".

Hahah, Logo Land? Really? Oh, Germany... will you *ever* learn?

The cover is also much better.

I'm looking to grab Max Barry's other two novels, Syrup and Company, but I can't find them for less than $25 each - except with pig ugly covers. /lit/ is forever laughing at people for paying for books, so what the fuck is the other option? Please don't tell me it's just borrowing them from the library.

I liked it because it wasn't subtle. It was IN YOUR FACE

I design my own cover.
I think it's very stylish and dystopia-looking.

Should be an HBO miniseries.

>> No.511002

I haven't read it; it just reminds me of spending hours and hours playing on Nationstates in middle school.

That was the first intensive writing practice I got, actually.

>> No.511004

It was okay, but then I read Snow Crash, which is a vastly superior decentralized dystopia.

Oh my god, I remember this book! I haven't thought about it in such a long time, though.

I didn't even know the author was Australian.

It's only a utopia if you're a leftist. You've obviously never even read the damn thing.
