What are some good gifts for literature fans? What gifts have you given which made them the happiest? Which gifts have you received that you liked?

Just any sort of books or should they be special edition or limited printing or anthologies or boxed sets

>Good gifts?
Something by their favourite writer.. IMO a collection of short stories or essays is a great gift.

>Gift I liked?
My bf doesn't read often but we both like John Steinbeck so for Christmas he gave me a book of (I think five) John Steinbeck stories. It was sweet.

I cut out a strip of my panties and had it closed up in engraved leather with a transparent front as a bookmark, gave that to my ex. He liked to read. Too bad he was a turd.

1. Money for books.
2. Gift card for a book store.
3. Books.
4. Good notebooks: the kind with the paper that's comfortable to write with a pen in. Something like Moleskine's but the paper type is more important than the brand. I wish I could tell you want mine is but it doesn't have a label on it.
5. Good pens: felt tip pens or fountain pens.

Probably get one of those e-readers like the ones Amazon sells that are readable even in sunlight if your literature friend doesn't have one already just so he/she can try it.

I wish I could tell you what mine is*

I ended up filling it in about a month compared to the one I'm writing in, which I've done so for almost three months now. The one before just asks to be written in with its creamy look and texture.

What's so insane about that?

Well, engraved leather is a little thick for a book...

Books.
If possible anthologies or collections are great, but so are good editions with essays and criticism and biography and all that.
Make sure you leave message on the back of the cover, it's nice to look back at them.

I gave my Danish teacher Blood Meridian. He said he would read it over the winter holidays.

That was 8 months ago and he has not completed it yet. I don't think he ever will. He is just being nice, which is fine, I guess.

Baby shoes, never worn.

I gave my niece the Fault in Our Stars. It was really mediocre, even for YA, but she really loved it and hopefully it'll get her into better stuff.

For adults I usually give them short story collections by an author they (or I) like.

I think it's shitty when people don't read books they're gifted, unless it's completely unexpected/unwarranted, or longer than 400 pages.
