How much would you say Crowley was an influence on all the New Age shit that's popped up since?

Also quote thread.

>“Happiness lies within one's self, and the way to dig it out is cocaine.”

He's one of several influences, but not the major one. Crowley primarily influenced the deeper and edgier black magic end of things; of late 19th / early 20th century esoteric movements, Madame Blavatsky and the New Thought movement had a greater influence on the mainstream hippie New Age, as did the mass availability in the West of Hindu and Buddhist texts and teachers that began in the 1950s.

He also made fun of science at other points though.

>Science is always discovering odd scraps of magical wisdom and making a tremendous fuss about its cleverness.

He looks like Brother Theodore.

Crowley was more of a precursor to the 60s era. "Do what thou wilt" "Love is the law" all the drug experimentation and sexuality. This becomes obvious too if you read Prometheus Rising.

I saw a guy wearing a "Do what thou wilt shalt be the whole of the law" t-shirt a few weeks ago. It was kind of hilarious. And a little sad.

Why? I bet you cannot explain why you feel that way without sounding like you´re trying to protect your own individuality.
