I'm 22 and I've still never read this.
I'm too embarrassed to check it out from the library at this point.

Is it really worth reading past eight grade? I might just read a .pdf of it.

It's one of my favorite books. Its just fun trying to decode what the world around Holden is really like, compared to what he is saying.

Is this the book where Holden rapes his sister? His sister Phoebe?

You can probably find it used for like 2 dollars at a book store. Or for not even 5 on Amazon. It's worth reading. (I'm 22 as well, and I'd read it again.) honestly the library people are probably just happy people still want to read 📖.

You definitely want to read it while young though, that way you have a closer connection to the main character.

I never read it as a kid. I read it recently, and I didn't even like it. Can't see why so many like it, but I think it has to do with having read it early.

I don't get this because I haven't read it. Is it a spoiler? Or some kind of epic meme because he doesn't actually rape his sister but you like to pretend he does? Or is it something else entirely?

I like how you had your little reddit moment over the image and not the multiple posts in the thread that kicked it off. Also I commend you for not posting "x" seventy times but holy shit dude get over it or stop coming to 4chan if memes make you cry

he doesnt rape his sister. She's just the only person Holden really seems to care about, so as always, people who read the book assume he wants to fuck her.

I've not read it either.

I read all of Salinger stories about the Glass family though...Banana Fish, Raise High the Roofbeams, etc.

I didn't like Salinger or his writing. Should I read this book?

He does rape his sister. It is an epic meme because most readers are too stupid to actually read the book and realise this.

its immaterial to the story if he did or did not rape his sister

the story hinge is where he describes what he wants.

also the shaving bit reads a bit like a watered down version of ulysses

I didn't read it until I was 19 and I feel it gains meaning if you're a bit older when you read it. You realize what a hypocritical phony Holden is. How he's already lost the battle of not being an innocent child anymore, but merely plays at being one.

>> No.5029750

People here love to talk the stupidest kind of shit about this book. It's good, though, and you should read it. I re-read it the other day, thought it was great, and I'm 24.
