It's finished, but I'm debating whether to rewrite it.

In the past few months I actually got the attention of a literary agent. She made it all the way to asking for the full manuscript, but soon after I sent it to her she rejected it. She said the "plot and characters were slightly underdeveloped," which is honestly pretty infuriating because "slightly" is a shitty, vague weasel word.

And then again, just in the past week or so my writing style has changed, shifted from merely basic prose to a more maximalist style, and I'm honestly not sure if the novel represents my best efforts, as much as I like it.

I personally think the core story is strong and that I have a very strong main character, but if I tried I could probably make it better.

Fucking shit, though, I don't want to rewrite the whole fucking thing. It's so exhausting.

Pretty good pace. Assuming you're writing a 100,000 word novel, you only have about 120 years left.

around 3000 words. Three weeks since I started, but only last week did I dedicate very much time to writing. I feel I'm that the point now where, after establishing everything, once I start writing again it'll come pretty easily. I think it's well written and that it is a marketable concept. I rate the prospect of having it published by a large publish house at larger than 0%.

Given that she asked for it and gave you some critique (though it's some generic shit), is pretty damn nice.

Take a break, some distance, perhaps even start an other project and then go and revisit your old.

I don't think it qualifies as a best seller, like Dan Brown or Stephen King, but nine thousand copies sold is a resounding success in the world of publishing, especially for a premier author.

>Take a break, some distance, perhaps even start an other project and then go and revisit your old.

I have in fact started some new projects, which is partly what has lead to the change in my style.

The trouble is I keep getting agents interested in the book via Twitter pitch contests. Apparently I'm just really, really good at pitching the book in 140 characters or less. I should have gone into advertising.

Now two agents want to see the first parts of it. I may as well hop back on the wagon. If these two fall through, then I'll take a break from trying to sell it.
