Wait, so you explicitly said that you would split larger submissions up over several issues, put in an incomplete story with "To be continued..." at the end, but didn't think to clarify that was the author's "TBC whenever" and not the zine editors saying "tune in next bat-issue"?

He submitted a story that was unfortunately placed directly after one of the best stories in the zine. It suffered greatly under comparison (forced dialogue, wooden prose, etc) and /lit/ went batshit about it. TSATF made a thread later asking for ways to improve his writing and a lot of people told him more or less to quit. Some people tried giving good advice, but most of them just complained to his "face" about what they didn't like.

I just hope he took it well. The story had promise, the execution was just iffy.

Thanks for employing an illiterate reviewer. It seems you've went for someone who is willing to sugar-coat every banal criticism he can muster up rather than someone who is going to offer genuinely insightful (and, you know, interesting) critiques.

Does this, guy knows how to, use commas, or what? I don't understand, why every other sentence, has to contain a, comma splice.

He is apparently unfamiliar with the concept of possessive pronouns (Seriously? You still don't know the difference between 'its' and 'it's'?) and the comparison between Josef K. and three literary greats: Lovecraft, Camus, and Shute. I suspect he only included the latter two on the basis that both 'On the Beach' and 'L'Étranger' had beaches in them.

I wish his writing were at least interesting enough to pick apart in detail but, sadly, it's not.

Better to restrict oneself to a single paragraph:

"A sparse, descriptive narrative takes us through the sun-scorching of the valley’s
crops- an important precursor to the harvest, the social and geographical history of the valley,
and the people’s connection with it."

Apparently it was a "sparse" but also a "descriptive" narrative, which I suppose is possible. It's also a "detailed" narrative though.

It would also be fascinating to know in what sense the narrative is a precursor to the social and geographical history of the valley.

I didn't think Alecto was anything like as good as Second Sunset but when I actually tried to compare them I couldn't think of a good reason why. "Ricardo Rodriguez" (what a name) is an emotionless vessel of a character but he's a fuck of a lot more developed than Darte, the world-building is just as sparse and just as good, and the descriptive language is no less excellent, plus there's dialogue and actual action. It's a lot more in your face, and where SS was setup and reflection that never led to anything Alecto was just shit getting blown up. Neither had any plot, which made SS good but kinda killed Alecto for me... it just doesn't have the same poignance.

I'm inclined to agree with the reviewer guy who said SS felt like part of a space opera, and extend the same point to Alecto. This would be ace as part of a bigger story but on its own is just an action scene, and there's no shortage of action scenes out there.

It just seemed like a standard, dollar-novel opening line like a shitty Dan Brown book. Opening lines should, for lack of a better cliche, 'hook the reader' into the story and not just be exposition. The opening sets the tone for at least the first page, possibly more - intoducing a character in such standard fashion with over-emphasis on the tech setting left a bad taste in my mouth.

Then again, pic is definitely related.

Impressions...

[*]Holy shit Josef K is a god.
[*]Blam! was enjoyable.
[*]Litchfield was meh.
[*]Didn't care much for Lord Creature.
[*]The Pencil was decent, but it didn't live up to my expectations.
[*]I absolutely loved the wordplay in The Long Goodnight.
[*]Buster Story was a touching slice of a sad life.
[*]Cool story, bro.
[*]Last Stop, Mr. Andrew's was pretty decent as well.

Have yet to read the rest of the stories.
The poetry, excepting a few gems(The Compass, Just Don't Ever Become A Writer) was meh.

Easy for you to say bro, reception for your first story was like Pattinson stepping out of his limo at a Twilight convention.

Sure it stood out because most of the rest of issue 1 was shit, but we can't all write that well.

It isn't a circlejerk? Who do you think keeps these threads going? They are the same people who post three or so "pre-release advertisement" threads before anything is actually posted. They are the same people who praise the mediocre work involved CONSTANTLY. They are the same people who will bump a thread forgotten for three hours...TWICE.

Nobody outside your cadre of faggotry is going to praise your zine.

Hasn't happened, ZWG didn't get mentioned for a fortnight.
>They are the same people who praise the mediocre work involved CONSTANTLY
Also hasn't happened, there's as much hate as love and some actually useful crit in there too.
>They are the same people who will bump a thread forgotten for three hours...TWICE
So... you're bitching about posting new threads, and also bitching about bumping forgotten threads? I don't know what your point is, and I don't think you do either.

Not a single one of us posted a pre-release thread for this edition of the zine. This is our first and only thread on the second issue. The first issue was different because we kept asking for feedback and revisions.

As for the work being mediocre, you are welcome to your opinions and I encourage you and any others to express it. I would ask you to provide actual feedback so that the authors of the works in the zine can gain something constructive from it. Simply dismissing their work just makes people tune you out as the standard noise on 4chan.

We will continue to work on this zine and future editions of it as long as the interest is there. Based on what we've seen in this thread, it looks like that interest is real.

I fucking lol'd.

Not that it didn't deserve it, though. Maybe that's why nobody is loving Alecto as hard - it wasn't really BAD, but SS was a fucking hard act to follow.

Please don't advertise it to the other boards. I can understand other writing sites, but I would really just love to see it kept a /lit/ thing. That way, the writers can come here and get criticism, and it just seems much more tightly-knit and community-esque.

>> No.499656

>>499649
They advertised to /x/ for the first issue and doubled submissions overnight. Speaking as a fa/tg/uy there's immense veins of quality draw/writefaggotry waiting to be tapped which would come out great in this zine. I'd rather e/lit/ist be a nickname rather than fact.

>> No.499658

>>499649
I understand the want to keep it /lit/ centric since that is where it's from, but there are talented people all over 4chan and their work could make it better. The editors still have the final say in what is published.

Cross-board would really help get a broader spread of content. /ic/ has artz, /ck/ has recipes, /tg/ has generally awesome shit and /k/ has war stories.

Stormtrooper Assault was very /tg/.
