Was there something particularly puzzling about it? I thought it was a gimmicky, but competently written, little character portrait cum mystery. At times I felt myself quite drawn into the narrator's mindset--though I have no expertise in matters of autism other than hanging out here with you fine folk, and thus can't speak to the accuracy of the portrayal.

Me again...wanted to mention that I found that following this book with Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory made for quite the disturbing contrast. Highly recommended.

You want a real "What the fuck am I reading?" moment? Try Finnegan's Wake:

riverrun, past Eve and Adam’s, from swerve of shore to bend of bay, brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs. Sir Tristram, violer d’amores, fr’over the short sea, had passencore rearrived from North Armorica on this side the scraggy isthmus of Europe Minor to wielderfight his penisolate war: nor had topsawyer’s rocks by the stream Oconee exaggerated themselse to Laurens County’s gorgios while they went doublin their mumper all the time: nor avoice from afire bellowsed mishe mishe totauftauf thuartpeatrick: not yet, though venissoon after, had a kidscad buttended a bland old isaac: not yet, though all’s fair in vanessy, were sosie sesthers wroth with twone nathandjoe. Rot a peck of pa’s malt had Jhem or Shen brewed by arclight and rory end to the regginbrow was to be seen ringsome on the aquaface.

Shit's funny, if you can grok it.

The babbelers with their thangas vain have been (confusium hold them!) they were and went; thigging thugs were and houhnhymn songtoms were and comely norgels were and pollyfool fiansees. Menn have thawed, clerks have surssurhummed, the blond has sought of the brune: Elsekiss thou may, mean Kerry piggy?: and the duncledames have countered with the hellish fel-lows: Who ails tongue coddeau, aspace of dumbillsilly? And they fell upong one another: and themselves they have fallen. And still nowanights and by nights of yore do all bold floras of the field to their shyfaun lovers say only: Cull me ere I wilt to thee!: and, but a little later: Pluck me whilst I blush! Well may they wilt, marry, and profusedly blush, be troth! For that saying is as old as the howitts. Lave a whale a while in a whillbarrow (isn't it the truath I'm tallin ye?) to have fins and flippers that shimmy and shake. Tim Timmycan timped hir, tampting Tam. Fleppety! Flippety! Fleapow!

At least one person wasn't familiar. Or are you the only person who matters on lit? My deepest apologies if you are. I had no idea I was trodding on somebody else's territory. I shall bow out and keep my comments to myself in the future.

I don't have a problem with a post, but today looks like we have so many newbros that I'm getting a little upset, sorry.

Your point still invalid, nevertheless, since most of lit users already knew about finnegan wake, so most probably I'm not the only one that gets annoyed by this kind of posts.

"This is the third one this week, mister Hooper."

We stare at the portrait in front of us; once a canvas for the great art of a polymath, now the canvas for a madman's sexual urges. White streaks crest the translucent flesh of Mona; the paint has mingled with the seed and runs down the wall.

"Well, what do you make of it? The DNA tests are back, it is the same gentleman." nationale chief Lambert asks me, his thick french accent excited with rage.

"How can we stop this... enfoiré?"

"First Gogh's "Sunflowers" in the National Gallery, then Dali's 'Visage du Grand Masturbateur' at The Sofia... now the Louvre's Mona Lisa itself. This man has connections, Lambert. We will need a full inquiry. I take it you're cooperating with Scotland Yard?"

"Oui, mister Cooper. This man has spat in the face of the French people."

I suck down on my pipe, trying to find sense in the cold marble of the museum.

"Lambert... I'm not so sure it was spit."

If only that were the beginning of The DaVinci Code, things would have gone so much better. Well done, anon.
