What are some companies that are making great money through publishing (books, series, tabletop games, anything with paper involved)? Are there any new grounds to make money through publishing? How good are book series? If you had a publishing house what would be the project you invest in?

easily relate-able, easy to read, digestible pose, probably some topic of general interest like post-apocalyptia or generic YA fantasy

I know damn well if I was some sociopath paper merchant I'd be churning out hunky vampire magic novel no. 420

Not OP, but I'm going to piggyback.

Can someone explain to me what the difference is between a publisher and a "publisher service?" I gather that publisher services offer to help smaller publishers expand their market, capabilities, etc., but the publisher services don't actually publish anything themselves, right?

Oyster is trying to do with books what Spotify did with music and Netflix did with movies andTV series (monthly subscription, unlimited access to their entire catalogue). While I like the convenience factor, last time I tried to use it their selection sucked (mostly bestseller/genre crap) and from what I hear the business model is terrible for the actual artists.

i actually got done, just recently, with a project for my business class. It was hypothetical,i know, but i found a way to print 500 books for slightly less than $450 american.

the books i would have been publishing, printing, and distributing would have been more anarchist-type political philosophy. basically pandering to those whom would prefer to stay local and detest big business.

my advice, find a niche. if you want to go big (national or international) i'd say do YA bullshit or get deals with known writers.

that does seem like a horrible idea for a writer, unless the goal is to be read not paid.

They publish your book for you, regardless of its literary worth, and then you have to peddle it yourself which is literally the hardest part of publishing.
