>not using context clues
it doesn't matter what dictionary you use, they generally have the same thing with only slightly different phrasing, and the slightly different phrasing doesn't matter because the meaning of a word changes slightly depending on use and user anyway.

Phrase it better next time then, please.
Also, memrise will help you regardless, since all the words you learn will pop up somewhere.

And you could choose ones from a vocab-building program like flashcards.

why would i write down words from a book to study and then go and learn other words that aren't from the book when my goal is to understand the book better by knowing the vocabulary and then re-reading it

>> No.4914465

>>4914438
So you know the words already when you go into your next book and don't have to bother with this recursive read-study-reread method, which is a horrific waste of time (but people on 4chan have lots of time to waste, so if that's what you prefer, be my guest).

>> No.4914498

>>4914465
the words i wrote down surely will appear in other books... and how is rereading a waste of time? i would rather reread to understand a book better than to read tons of books and not understand any of them.

I like Wiktionary. It's not as popular as Wikipedia but is full of dictionary nerds who add every fucking word they can find, making it comprehensive and accurate.
