If /lit/ is so smart why haven't you written a best selling novel and retired yet?

If people can write garbage like Twilight, Da Vinci code, potter, David foster Wallace, why can't u?

the sad reality is if you want to make money, you write relateable trite and wish for the best

so to imply that artistic merit = money is foolish

Da Vinci Code wasn't garbage FYI. The actual story it told was far larger than the characters and plot and the author understood this and just wrote an easy-to-understand foreground narrative and let the reader's own historical imagination carry the majority of the novel.

People like to trash Dan Brown but he is a decent person and writer who understands his limitations and unlike some modern day authors doesn't try to pretend there's so much 2deep4u symbolism in what he writes. He deserves all the cash he gets.

"Thank you so much for sending me your work. However, having considered it, I’m afraid that I don’t feel it’s right for my list.

I trust you’ll understand that the extremely high volume of submissions I receive means that I’m not able to give more detailed feedback.

I’m very sorry that this isn’t one for me, and I wish you the best of luck with other agents.

All best wishes,

Bryony Woods"
