So how many books do you own?

>> No.4749084

I only own Ulysses, Gravity's Rainbow, and Infinite Jest.

I never thought of getting any more books because those three books are all I need.

>> No.4749088

Around 60, not counting 30 comic books. I've read half of them completely and around 1/5 I barely started. Granted, I read a bunch of borrowed books, library books and ebooks.

A place for not having a 25% failure of something to say about lit. For example, a person could ask how people are amassing so many books and someone else could point out good low-cost sources of books like thrift stores or frugal online sources.

I guess a few hundred? I have a few shelves full in my lounge, quite a lot on my mum's bookshelf (she has more room than me) and a few big boxes in her garage.

I guess I own about half the books I've read, while the other half I gave away to someone after reading them, or else they were library loans or e-reader files.

Maybe it's because books don't have internet access? I don't find I have a problem concentrating with my e-reader (which technically has internet, but the browser is so shitty I'd never consider using it).

>Maybe it's because books don't have internet access?
My chair is right in front of my computer anyways, so it doesn't take any more effort to access the internet while reading a physical book. I think it's the association paper books have with a specific type of reading. My brain enters a weird concentrative state when reading a physical book that doesn't occur when reading e-books.

I once visited a boss who had all the roman authors in bookshelves, while I waited for him to come preach on me, I was reading one of them.

As he entered the room, I asked: Have you read this?

- He said: Hell no, they're there as a decoration.

- Why would anyone have books as decoration? I asked back

- Because some people, get intimidated by thinking they are speaking to an extremely intelligent and cultivated person, and are less likely to discuss, or question my authority. Since you are not one of those, this work is not for you.

And into the trash I went.
