Did it go for $164 million to an anonymous buyer? If it did, someone wasn't really buying the painting but rather trying to pass off drug money and blood money as a legitimate transaction so it can be legally circulated. Most "modern art" is actually a big money laundering scam and the FBI is onto it, which is why you see scribbles go for obscene amounts with some half-baked artistic interpretation slapped onto it to convince the cops it's really art.

I will admit I know little about painting and art history, but this is my favorite painting. The Garden Of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch. I can never get over just how much is going on in this painting, and how absolutely bizarre it is for a 15th century work.

I hate how people have been trained to be afraid of artworks like these. I love their cautious optimism and everyman quality. This isn't art intended to be decadent, billion-dollar monstrosities that sit in person's home to rot or in museums to be -maybe- seen, with no purpose other than "it looks pretty and it generates cash value over time".
