How come a lot of people here have a raging hateboner for post-modernism?

because tenure is on the line

>> No.4719752

i've noticed the people who hate it don't really know what it is

>> No.4719753

I mean, clearly it's the result of earnest and studied engagement with the texts.

Like the thing itself, it's hated/disliked for various reasons.

Mostly that, from what I've encountered. There are those who know what it is and dislike it intensely, but they aren't common.

I don't really hate post-modernism in and of itself, I just find it pernicious and anathema to productive discourse for the most part, especially if it gets its claws in students too early.

>> No.4719788

Post-modernism is shit for several reason and I'll put it simply so that your simplistic teen PoMo brain can understand.

By denying the value of art and literature it also loses any meaning and value of itself. Now philosophy itself has been called useless countless times, but it has never been useless (you should know this if you're on /lit/, otherwise fuck off back to /sci/), through it we can understand the fundamental structure of reality. What PoMo does is just jack its dick off while screaming loudly HUUR DUURR GUISE NO MEANING. While all previous philosophical movements have had a positive impact on human understanding, PoMo has yet to make any significant contribution to humanity.

I will see your underage wikipedia scholars and further suggest that these individuals are:

1. From /pol/
2. Poorly educated
3. Likely nazi/right wing
4. American

Postmodernism does have some issues with praxis, but it's not entirely devoid of it.

>>4719788
Pomo says meaning is subjective, which is also what existentialism said. Are you saying there is any meaning that isn't created by humanity?

your post is a case in point, really. protip: there isn't nor has there ever been a philosophical movement called "postmodernism"

>> No.4719805

>>4719799
There are, however, philosophical movements which are postmodern.
