Hey /lit/. I'm a writer, not by trade, and I'm really curious about a lot of things. I'm not well read, nor have I published anything. I do write often, but I'm really looking to do something different and I needed to know if it was even... a thing.

Are there books, not screenplays, that have songs in them? With characters who just break into song during important parts/passages? Thanks.

Yep, a whole lot of them. Songs are just typically written kind of like poems in the text- italicized paragraphs centered in the page

Pynchon, on his own books:

"Characters stop what they're doing to sing what are for the most part stupid songs."

Following that definition, any moron who posts on this board is a writer. The common understanding of the word is in reference to a person who has writing as his profession. Don't be deliberately obtuse.

Why not. Most of them think they are, anyway.
