What do you think about mind maps? Are they useful?

>> No.4641367

>>4641359
I use them when we're brainstorming things at work - they can be useful for keeping things vaguely organised.

What tools do you use?

That's interesting but I find it exceedingly hard to concentrate with four uninvited guests devouring shitty food behind my back while I browse 4chan with a sullen look on my face and my girlfriend reads Austen.

Fucking ingrates with an itch for importunate obnoxious smacking of lips.

Sorry about this.

I use MindJet Mindmanager, purely because that's what we have a corporate license for at work. At home I use MagicalPad on my iPad, though I think having a keyboard interface is surprisingly useful for mindmapping, at least with the way Mindmanager was implemented.

I would suggest you use IMindMap which is the software designed by the tony buzan the inventor of mind map. XMind is also good. I used Mindjet and it lacked certian features compared to imindmap and xmind.

Both free to try, so ok, thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a go.

I dislike vulgar careless chewing too. They eat it as if something primal, animal conscious about it, just for the consumption of it.

When you say mind map, do you mean a diagram like in my mind ? If so, yes. I'm a history major and I organize all my thoughts in lines and shapes. I know it sounds autistic but when I think of a decade or ideas on a timeline everything has a very specific shape and direction. It just makes remembering things very easy, like a mental filing cabinet.

Do you know any books with timelines like HISTOMAP of john sparks?

>> No.4643615

I didn't even know what that was until I just googled it. My mental maps are 3d though, otherwise that looks about right.

>> No.4643759

Welp, i do love the concept of mindmaps, our working/short term abstract memory is weak, that's why we need visualization, that's why most if not all greatest minds worked in images.
Mental images, visualization in general holds enormous volumes of information and interconnectivness, can be extremely complex and multi-dimensional in comparison to other forms of perceptions, we can work intuitively with them, easier and in much more depth.

But my issue with any practical application of visualizing thoughts was the restlessness of not using an effective enough system true to the vast potential of the visualization.
That adapting and relying to a certain mindmap 'template' would be too limiting, there are infinite layouts and configurations of "mind mapping" one can create, even within just one mindmap application you can find on the internet.

The greater number of mental tools, the greater height of perception and insight one can have.
I'm all for using as many different ones, ideally effective and not masturbatory.

Of course, everyone has differences in their thought process, what passes as effective mindmapping can vary to person to person.
And also one person might use different mindmapping patterns to adjust for particular situations.

The holy grail of mindmapping is to create a system (even within the typical mindmapping tools) that can fulfill the above.
An effective and super flexible with infinite potential configuration.

Watched all of it, very interesting to say the least.
Also why are the English people so better at talking in general.

Tony Buzan ( the inventor of mindmap ) speaks very well since he was a host for a psychology show on britains tv.

I have already tried tons of such programs and know already more than enough about the subject.
What I'm proposing is much more than "brainstorming", mnemonic device, management, presentation etc.
Mindmap can be much more than it is now.

By the way, to what mistakes are you referring when using "illiterate"?

What mate. No I'm not talking about highschool critical thinking. I'm talking about companies assigning 5 people to "discuss" a problem which could be tackled by a single employee in 5 minutes simply because a stupid "psychologist" from one of those pants on the head retarded movements told them to do so.

Look at this thread, this is brainstorming!

We are in a virtual room talking about a single topic which leads to some interesting conclusions because each person has his own ideas. Now imagine if OP was alone in this. See?
