was i trolled /lit/?

i was told this was a good book to read, so picked it up- allready having read Stardust and liking that.

this book was dissapointing.
lots of 'all over the place' story, too many side characters that didnt matter/ never did anything, and the story line had SO many inconsistencies such as Shadow saying 'i dont ask questions' then asking a question two sentences later.
plus, i hated how the main character's name was 'shadow'. seemed so..retardedly cliche.

and the gods they didnt even realy have any power except living long. and the whole 'theirs another Odin in iceland' thing in one way makes sense: new gods brought over to different places so their would be more than one. in other ways, it makes none 'so is their a new Odin for each follower? or for each band? or each ritual? it just made no sense.

so, was i trolled hard by you guys? i was deeply dissapointed by this book.

But yeah, I really liked American Gods. Maybe it's just because I've always been a fan of the gods-in-real-life theme. Also, I got to pat myself on the back when I understood the mythology references. When a book feeds my ego it makes me enjoy it more.

I love Gaiman's graphic novels, but I think he loses something in prose novels. Maybe he needs an artist or some other collaborator to bounce off; I don't know, but there's a definite lack to his novels that I can't explain. I enjoyed American Gods and his other novels, but I'm not the OMG DA BESTESR EVAH!!!1! that so many people are. His two best novels (imho) Stardust and Good Omens were both written with someone else. (Stardust doesn't have Vess's name as the author, but my understanding is that the both of them worked closely together on it).

tl;dr I enjoyed American Gods, but I didn't wet my knickers.
