Let's have a Kafka thread /lit/ ?

>> No.4624947

kafka is an actual autist. functionally autistic, poorly-written obscurantist kike shit under the guise of 'mysterious' tortured existentialism does not make good literature. please do not post anything pertaining to this 'writer' or his shit books again

You don't like him, huh?

>> No.4624966

He's either going through a phase or he's Bret Easton Ellis. In either case, there's a dull inertia governing his every thought.

it's just another flavor of the month gimmicky "tripfag" with the same set of standard ~controversial opinions~. you know, the kind that eagerly waits for feminism threads to post "baits".

another? flavor of the month? this gimmick has worked wonders for like 2 years

>accusing a fiction writer of being "obscurantist"
a new low for /lit/

>> No.4625005

>>4624994
you're right, obscurantist is too much of a compliment for kafka since it's not intentionally obscure, his writing is just that awful

how about disorganized, careless, faux, terrible, worthless, garbage, neckbeard...
none of these are really hitting it like obscurantist though

To get this thread back on track; I didn't love Metamorphosis. I did however enjoy the hunger artist. I bought the trial a few days ago. Any good?

if you know english there's no reason you couldn't learn basically any european language well enough to read most literature in 9 months or so
learning enough to read/listen in any language that isn't something fucked up like chinese or something is actually pretty easy. learning enough to speak is hard.

Fuck yeah been waiting for this thread, I just bought The Castle, how does it compare with The Trial?

Updike ragged on Decription of a Struggle in the intro of my book but I'm not seeing any of the "adolescent posturing" he decried. It's more or less as understated and lucid as the rest of Kafka's work, maybe more erratic or fragmented but that's probably the best thing about it.

He's walking with his companion and for some reason decides that this man's going to kill him so he runs, slips on some ice and blacks out. This guy then gives him a piggyback ride. Later he discusses, with a fat man drowning in a river, a man trying to confront another man who prays obnoxiously at church, to strut his piety. And the whole hill-climbing scene is reminiscent of Lewis Carol, whimsical fantasy.

Kafka's humor and the breadth of his imagination are obvious here; I don't see how anyone could call this story "repellent."

>> No.4627188

>>4627174
It jumps around randomly. It's brilliant, but it seems to me that Kafka hadn't yet gotten a hold on himself.

if updike didn't like description of a struggle, I pale to think what he would think of "Investigations of a Dog". I could hardly bear it.

I can't believe you /lit/. I mean, I knew you were all simply terrible, but being anti-Kafka is the pinnacle of autism.
>You want some flowery imagery? How about you go fuck yourself.
>you want some character development? Go read Harry potter
>you want morality and conviction? Why don't you kill yourself

Kafka is the man because he doesn't put any spin on the ball. It's down the middle every--goddamn--time. All these faggot authors wanna make everything so pretty--so meaningful. THAT is why Kafka is great, because fuck you.

Insurance salesman wanted all his works to be burned anyway after his death. His whore family sold them. Unlike all your aristocrat authors.

>> No.4630901

I´ve not read kafka in english, but let me say that the sentence structure is essential for kafka and it is something typical german.
For me it´s Up in the Galerie that describes Kafka the most, and it´s beautiful.
