Cormac doesn't like you so why you like him. His only friend is nothingness, death.

All The Pretty Horses is just as good as Blood Meridian. It's not as thematically nihilistic, I mean, but it's about killing the romance of the Old West mythology.

>last scene is the hero riding off into the sunset
>we don't stop following him
>it just keeps going
>fuck
>the sun is basically already down and it's night when the book ends

McCarthy would, in general, seem much more important if he were not obsessed with all this magical thinking about being haunted by a literal family of fatherly ghosts. Every time he tags on one of these codas about death dreams of being haunted by "the fathers" sitting in eternal judgement of the living, (The Road, No Country, final volume of Border Tri) he injects the same kind of right-wing parsimony that turns so many off when they encounter it in David Foster Wallace.

The first time, I was willing to come along on these unpunctuated little western adventures. Then, I was even willing to go along with cousin fuckers eating babies. Then it became clear that McCarthy is making a demand; in exchange for these unique little fever dreams, you must hold yourself up to "my" "authorial" judgement system. If you are, reader, unable to survive these kinds of knife fights, privations, gun battles, and moralistic gauntlets, at least as nobly as my unlikely heroes, consider yourself wanting by the eternal and final judges watching you from beyond.

Well, fuck you, Cormac. Thanks for the sermon.

You clearly haven't, and have stated your inability to survive. I bet you most likely haven't had a shred of actual pain in your entire life, much less brushes with anything that's beyond you. Simply a weakling that would uneventfully die in one of those said fights.

Hey, internet tough guy, just post the navy seal copypasta. McCarthy does obsolete as well as Mel Gibson. He was haunted by immortal Catholic conservative judges in Braveheart which render that narrative equally sanctimonious and disposable.

Now recite your Krav Maga resume. Whatever you do, don't reference an actual text, or demonstrate that you have ever actually read anything thread related.

You're an idiot. When I was talking about pain and survival, it was not at all in reference to the type of machismo you somehow think I'm projecting. I was stating that as a reader, you couldn't even survive McCarthy, thus making you unfit to ever comment on the intricacies of his work.

But keep thinking I'm an internet tough guy, and if you're OP... well clearly you stopped reading McCarthy not too long ago.
