Michaelangelo is so boring. Almost everything he made features people just casually standing or sitting comfortably because he couldn't draw, paint or sculpt without having a model in front of him on hours on end, and said models couldn't do action poses.

At least the picture on the right features a story of sort and colors. Michaelangelo's David is just standing there, like a layabout. Had Michaelangelo been a more creative, dynamic, inventive artists, we'd see him as he was attempting to slay Goliath.
Pic related, by Bernini, a superior sculptor.

I think Michelangelo is a little more in the Greek tradition, rooted in idolatry, in that his statues are for being contemplated at length rather than giving a striking impression. The latter is more the province of colour and painting; so it seems to me.

Yes, but Michelangelo's sculpting might have been excused had my critique of him not extended to his painting as well, an art form he himself deemed "inferior".
Notice though I've never called Michelangelo a bad artist. Just a boring one.

I've never been taught journalistic writing so i have mostly taught myself by imitating the styles of others in a hope to get a feel for the specific type of writing. So sometimes I get confused over which expressions suit the occasion best.
Thanks for your input though

I seem to be getting a little notice from the local city newspaper. Should I consider working to publish there, or should I first work on honing my skills?

this is a fantastic portrait of modern loneliness souls experience even when they appear to be socially active and fulfilled emotionally.

the picture is built with the principles of dadaic primitivism and the chosen style highlights the simple, primal, almost childlike needs and feels that go unfulfilled in modern society

the fact that the artist chose a tree and a dinosaur as the vessels of his vision showcases beautifully how differently two humans can experience life, making them yearn for friendship but ultimately incompatible for a meaningful relationship

the personalities of these two characters can be identified from the choice of colours. the dinosaur is red, which symbolizes excitement, passion and love. here is an individual that lives life to the fullest. his smile tells us he loves life and is an extremely positive person. meanwhile the tree is green, which symbolizes envy. from his sadness and color we can deduce he is jealous of the dinosaur's happiness and wishes to be him and feel like him. he wants the dinosaur's company but his proximity makes him even sadder and incites his envy further.

the violet heart between them symbolizes the complex relationship between these two individuals. at a glance, this seems to be a scene from a friendship of two persons who are polar opposites of each other, but once we focus our attention we can see several undercurrents of unsaid feelings, thoughts and complex meaning in this image that at first appeared so deceptively simple.

>unpretentious

Right, so if I live in a society where everyone in my class strata are slaves, or oppressed, or whatever, and I make a piece of art under the PRETENSE of opposing that scheme of living, it's not real art, because it's pretentious.

Or maybe you just toss around that word and imagine it means "stuck-up."
