People claiming that the show is better than the books are at least one of the following

1) exclusively watch the show because "lol reading is for nerds"
2) working their way through the books
3) trolling

The first season of the show is very faithful to the books, but at some point (s2 onwards), details get lost/embellished, adding changes not in the books

- Varys keeping the guy who castrated him (wtf?)
- Theon/Reek storyline
- Littlefinger is obviously set up as THE bad guy

It sounds elitist, but whenever there is some tv/film adaptation of a book, I always prefer the books because it is closer to the source material. I don't like it when tv/film takes some liberties in adapting the original

I'm just reading the books now. I didn't think A Feast for Crows was as bad as everyone led me to believe it would be. Some of the characters changed in interesting ways. Watching Cersei fall was glorious. It did feel like a lot of nothing happened considering how many pages the thing was though.
