I don't know. This is something I struggle with in real life. I'll say something which I obviously do not actually think and I'll have people react as if I'm being serious. In their defense, I do try to sell the line, because I figure that if I'm not wholly committed in delivery then it would fall flat anyway. Maybe I just need new friends

I don't know, OP. Just hope that you throw enough ridiculousness in there that it comes across. It's a difficult quality to convey in person; I've no idea how you could do it in writing.

Much easier in real life, you are probably doing it wrong. You must deliver it correctly, use your voice tone and facial expressions to give the right feeling to it.

But that runs the whole fun of it. You have to deliver it in dead monotone, and reveal that the stance is a joke a moment later. Timing is the most important part, though. A little bit too late or early, and it will sound as if you try to initiate damage control.

Either use footnotes like another anon said or at the end include a Key and set up a series of text codes to mean your intention.
For example i have "/s" meaning sarcasm, "/i"meaning irony, "/:" meaning straight up joke (i hardly ever use this one because if i need to tell them its a joke then its hardly worth telling).

Depends on your definition of wrong. I suppose it's "wrong" because people often don't get that I'm joking, but I don't agree with the way other people do it either. I want to sound like it's something I believe; I don't want it to sound like it's a joke, so apparent that people who don't even know me pick up on it. That's the problem. I believe it's something that should be subtle, whereas everyone else in the world wants to giggle during it or sound snarky

I deal with this every day in my real life. Am I autistic or are the people around me just not at my level?

I made a girl cry by arguing that the elephant man was a selfish crybaby and would be less interest at a social gathering than Saddam Hussein. I wouldn't have said something so retarded normally, but she bragged all the time about being a writer and having her masters degree in English, so I assumed she of all people would appreciate the irony. Instead she threatened to kill me and made my girlfriend mad at me for about three months for 'being mean'
