I got three things you have to promise to go to in Austin:
-Toy Joy (close to UT)
-Amy's Ice Cream (go for the Cop Stop, it's coffee ice cream with cake donuts in it)
and most importantly:
-Esther's Follies in the downtown area. I don't normally giggle like a child, and that is the most god-damned hilarious show I've ever seen. Facing the stage, be sure to sit at the front and to the right, because those are the hot seats.

Unless you already live there, but still, you might've not seen those.

And thank me later. I won't be in town, but UT is a wonderful school.

What's Strathy like compared to Glasgow? Grade issues aside, did you like the university? Can you see yourself going to lectures in that building from the accommodation, going in to campus (if there is one, I don't know the universities myself), and did you like the current students?

>> No.441295

Not OP but Glasgow has a much nicer campus (coming from a strathy student), but strathy has the advantage of being right in the middle of town, so theres shops, clubs etc nearby. Glasgow will have a higher proportion of arseholes however, and plenty of folk up their own arse (but most uni's have them anyway). Still they are both good, in terms of law for the other poster they are pretty much equal. Basically I got unconditionals from both and had to choose between them, but chose strathy on the back of its engineering rep. For law I would just decide which place you like better, in terms of the quality of the course they are the same.

I didn't think the practice of making your job sound more impressive than it is, even at the expense of accuracy, was now a requirement...but then again, I try not to spend too much social time with other IT people. Leave it to 4chan to know (or invent) the unwritten rules.

I'm not a software engineer, because I don't "engineer" my software, nor do I only "develop". I design, write, revise, maintain, and/or test it, depending on the situation. So the generic term seems the best to me, and in any case, I know (and work with) dozens of people who describe themselves that way.

>> No.441422

>>441345

Not bad, anon, not bad at all. How is your major treating you?

>> No.441442

>>441371
The term "programmer" has a negative connotation. Programming is the physical act of programming, Software Engineering is the act of creating software. Needless to say, if you're doing designing, maintaining, and testing, you're an engineer/developer.

Also, more importantly, your job title would be "Software Engineer", which is why it's pretty obvious you're talking out of your ass.

I don't know of anyone who considers "programmer" derogatory (yes, I just asked several about it). And what the hell is the "physical act of programming"--as though someone is dictating the code to you and you just type it in? My job title is actually "Technical Director", but since that doesn't describe what I actually do for a living very well, I use "programmer", which I consider the most general term of the three we're discussing.

But, by all means, continue to make judgments about specific people from dubious generalities. It'll get you far.
