Anybody write real letters anymore?

I remember in middle school waiting every day, practically stalking the postman, hoping I'd get a letter from a penpal somewhere out in the world. My outgoing letters were on some ridiculous, expensive onion skin paper "made for international mail" which made me feel like a European intellectual from the 17th century.

I promised my friend I'd write her a letter about this time last year. I still haven't.

how would one get envelopes like that, they look snazzy?

>> No.440260

They're just called airmail envelopes and you can get them at most stationary stores. Some are made from really thin, light paper and feel even snazzier. Others are very thick.

I wish I could write letters to people like I used to.
Now if I ever ask "Can I have your address?" They'll give me their email..

Pic related: it's how I feel.

Ha, yep. Now if you actually ask for someone's address they worry you're going to be Google StreetViewing their house.

The closest thing I do is when I send out a card I actually do write out a message of some kind.

But I haven't written a real letter in years.

I want a pen pal, though.

It's easiest to find one as an adult if you're trying to learn a language. For most languages you'll be able to find a list of people who want to learn English and will exchange messages with you/correct what you send them.

I'd like just a regular person though, preferably from somewhere obscure.

Try to learn Icelandic or something. Or the language of some other obscure place. Chances are there's someone willing to write you from there.

Where do you find these people?

Language learning webcommunities. Usually someone can hook you up with someone nearly anywhere. I wrote letters to people in refugee camps for a while.

I will be looking into this, ta.
